Description

Known mainly to locals there is a lower carpark for Te Mata Peak park and walking tracks. The Tauroa Road carpark links up to the Main Gates carpark via the Chambers Walk and others via the Giant Redwoods. Follow Tauroa Road all the way to the very end. There is fresh water, toilet blocks, and picnic spots next to a frog pond here. The Giant Redwoods are an easy 700m walk from this carpark, with all the main tracks in the park available from this point. This starting point of the park is also an easier cycle ride in from Havelock North, compared to Simla Avenue and Te Mata Peak roads.
