Lake Alexander Hut

Description
This is a standard 6-bunk hut located in Ferny Gair Conservation Area in the South Marlborough Area. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served.
Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water from a stream.
Ferny Gair can be accessed via the Avon valley by obtaining permission to cross private land. Contact Bernard and Jo Mason phone +64 3 572 4803. (Access is closed late winter/ early spring due to farming activities.) If permission is granted a key can be obtained from the Masons for a small donation.
From Avondale Road a 4WD track for 6 km through private property will take you to the Ferny Gair Conservation Area Boundary. From here a 2 hr 30 min walk on a marked track up the Tummil River takes you to Lake Alexander. The hut is at the southern end of Lake Alexander.
Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12-month period.
