Newton Creek Hut

Description
This is a basic four-bunk hut in the Hokitika area. There are no fees. Bookings not required - first come, first served.
Facilities include heating mattresses, non-flush toilets and water from a stream.
Newton Creek Hut is located at the lower end of the Newton Creek basin.
Newton Hut can be accessed from the Arahura valley. From the Lower Arahura Hut follow the Browning Pass bench track for around two hours, climbing/sidling to the Newton Creek turnoff just before Third Gorge Creek. The track drops from the turnoff down to the river and crosses the swingbridge to the true right.
Continue up the riverbed to the track entrance. The track enters the bush and climbs steeply up the faces on the true right of the waterfall and over a low ridge into Newton Creek Basin. Continue up the river flats to the hut.
This route continues on to Newton Saddle, over to Dunns Hut and down to join with the Taipo Track.
