Description

This is a standard six-bunk hut located in Puketeraki Forest Conservation Area in the North Canterbury and Arthur's Pass area. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served. Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water from a stream. Times from nearest road end and hut - Lees Valley Road: 45 hr via Youngman Stream Track From Oxford, follow Ashely Gorge Road for 6 km. Turn into Lees Valley Road and follow this for 29 km to a sign that indicates the vehicle track. Follow this marked track (it's generally negotiable with two or four wheel drive vehicles) for 3.5 km to a locked gate and car park. Keep to the marked track as this is private farmland. Tarn Hut: 2 hr 30 min Tracks to the hut: Youngman Stream Track. Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12-month period.
