Freedom camping permitted in certified self contained vehicles only. Camping in tents and non-self contained vehicles is NOT permitted. All independent overnight/freedom campers must behave in an acceptable manner while camping in the Mackenzie Region. This includes: Not camping on private land Leaving your camp site(s) in a clean and tidy state Disposing of all toilet and waste water at a Council approved dump station (located in Fairlie, Lake Tekapo and Twizel) Disposing of all other refuse in approved bags and at approved locations Following safe fire practices at all times, including adhering to fire bans Keeping dogs under control at all times
